Hey Reader, Summer in Lake Tahoe feels a little bit ridiculous. The water is so impossibly blue it almost looks photoshopped. Granite peaks rise straight out of the crystal-clear aquamarine water. Pine forests smell incredible in the warm sunshine. And every viewpoint somehow looks even better than the last. It's the kind of place that makes you stop every five minutes and say, "Wait... we have to pull over." Again. Most people know Lake Tahoe as a ski destination, but summer might be our favorite season here. Because as soon as the snow melts, the entire lake transforms into one giant outdoor playground. Welcome to Lake Tahoe, California: Our travel guide to summer in Lake Tahoe has everything you need to know to plan your trip, and all the best Lake Tahoe summer activities! You can spend the morning hiking to panoramic viewpoints, cool off with a swim in crystal-clear water, rent a kayak or paddleboard to explore hidden coves, relax on sandy beaches, or simply drive the scenic loop around the lake, stopping every time another breathtaking overlook appears. Which is... often. One of our favorite things about Tahoe is that every part of the lake has its own personality. On the east shore you'll find unbelievably clear water, dramatic granite boulders, and some of the lake's most famous beaches. The west shore feels quieter and more rugged, with towering pine forests and peaceful hiking trails. Then there's Emerald Bay, quite possibly one of the most photographed places in California, and for very good reason. It's every bit as stunning in real life. This guide also covers some of our favorite hikes, scenic drives, beaches, viewpoints, and outdoor adventures, whether you're looking for a relaxing lakeside weekend or the kind of trip where you accidentally hit 25,000 steps before lunch. (No judgment. We've done both.) Also, I bet you didn't know about the ghosts? Yes, ghosts in Lake Tahoe... So if you're planning a California road trip this summer or just looking for an excuse to spend a few days somewhere spectacular, we've rounded up all the very best things to do around Lake Tahoe. Just don't forget your swimsuit. You're going to want it.
